So với thế hệ trước là SP-550UZ, chiếc máy ảnh siêu zoom mới nhất của Olympus, SP-560UZ, vẫn được trang bị ống kinh 28 - 504 mm, tương đương zoom quang 18x, nhưng cảm biến có độ phân giải cao hơn, bộ xử lý ảnh thế hệ mới và nhiều tính năng tiên tiến hơn.

SP-560UZ được Olympus trang bị cho cảm biến có độ phân giải 8 Megapixel và bộ xử lý ảnh TruePic III mới nhất. Theo Olympus, bộ xử lý TruePic III mang đến độ sắc nét cao hơn cho bức ảnh, đồng thời cũng giúp máy hoạt động với tốc độ nhanh hơn so với những đời máy sử dụng bộ vi xử lý cũ.
Olympus SP-560UZ còn sở hữu khá nhiều công nghệ tiên tiến như dò tìm mặt, tự động lấy nét hay tự động chỉnh độ phơi sáng. Ngoài ra, máy cũng được tích hợp công nghệ điều chỉnh các chi tiết bóng (Shadow Adjustment) và tính năng xem trước bức ảnh đẹp nhất (Perfect Shot Preview).

Olympus cho biết, công nghệ Shadow Adjustment giúp cho những bức ảnh chụp trong điều kiện thiếu ánh sáng có thêm nhiều chi tiết hơn trong các điểm nhấn và các chi tiết bóng. Còn tính năng Perfect Shot Preview cho phép người dùng có thể xem trước những hiệu ứng mà một loạt các khung ảnh khác nhau mang lại, trước khi quyết định bấm máy để chụp.

Tốc độ hoạt động chậm và chất lượng ảnh không cao là những điểm yếu cố hữu của SP-550UZ. Tuy nhiên, với bộ xử lý ảnh mới có hiệu quả hoạt động cao hơn, SP-560UZ có thể khắc phục rất tốt những nhược điểm này.
